Mirages of Calypso Enchanted by the Depths

An exhibition of Dmytro Dulfan’s work exploring the tension between imagination and material form. Sculptural lamps, reflections and shadows transform the gallery into an imagined underwater world.

Chief curator: Andrii Siguntsov. Co-curators: Anna Morokhovska and Serhii Poliakov. Production: Semen Kantor and Volodymyr Umanenko.

About the project

Dmytro Dulfan’s art is a plunge into the abyss: a journey without a final port, where the corporeal and the mystical, creation and destruction, become difficult to separate. The exhibition takes Calypso as an image of seductive confinement. Like the nymph who holds Odysseus outside his own history, the dream promises another life while postponing the possibility of reaching it.

The exhibition space becomes an underwater world, and the works appear as fragments of a shattered myth. Dulfan’s lamps evoke bodies and ideas that never fully take form yet continue to pulse in the darkness. Light does not resolve their strangeness; it makes the boundary between presence and absence more unstable.

In this reading, artistic creation is both an exorcism and a struggle with isolation. The distance between what might have been and what exists becomes the work’s driving force. These are not completed stories, but mirages suspended at the threshold of fulfilment.
