Pleasure Center
A joint action by Andrii Siguntsov and artist Andrii Chepurko.
Visitors were invited to eat four life-size cakes shaped as the heads of Slavoj Žižek, Lars von Trier, Azis and Anders Breivik. Created with a professional pastry chef, the edible portraits brought conflicting public figures together around a shared act of consumption.
Also documented under the title Center of Delight.
About the project
Pleasure Center invited visitors to eat four life-size cakes shaped as the heads of Slavoj Žižek, Lars von Trier, Azis and Anders Breivik. Made with a professional confectioner, the edible sculptures brought recognisable public figures into an encounter that was at once convivial and deliberately uncomfortable.
Each head had a different flavour: gin for von Trier, rum for Breivik, banana liqueur for Azis and herbal liqueur for Žižek. The figures did not form a harmonious group; their contradictory associations became part of the work’s friction.
By asking the audience to consume the exhibition, the project placed taste, pleasure and judgement in direct contact. The familiar rituals of a shared table met a situation in which an artist’s proposition could be more difficult to digest than the object itself. Participation transformed the installation, making its disappearance part of the event.
