Ode to Sonia
An exhibition dedicated to Sonia Delaunay, connecting her experiments in colour, rhythm and form with the work of contemporary artists in Odesa. Painting, graphic art, textiles, fashion and design are presented as interconnected artistic languages.
Co-curated by Andrii Siguntsov and Anna Morokhovska. Opened at the Museum of Odesa Modern Art on 5 April 2026.
About the project
The exhibition grew out of the museum’s Ode to Sonia programme, launched in November 2025. Thematic displays explored Sonia Delaunay’s practice, while a competition invited young Odesa artists to imagine illuminated posters inspired by her experiments with light in the 1930s. The spring exhibition brought these contemporary responses and the winning neon posters into a shared space, connecting historical research with a new generation’s visual language.
The programme also laid the foundation for Sonia Delaunay — Simultaneous World, an interdisciplinary project across Odesa and Lviv in July–October 2026. Bringing together a festival, an exhibition and an international conference, it developed partnerships with the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in Lviv and the National Art Museum of Ukraine, with support from the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and the French Institute in Ukraine.
